Getting back to Health..

The last couple of months have been a whirlwind for me. In November and December I had so many events both in and outside the store, that it was near impossible to keep up with my normal health and workout regime. It felt much like being on a Ferris wheel that never let you off. When it all eventually came to an end I took a week off to spend time with my family and re-coup from all the chaos of December. I spent the first part of the week in Colorado visiting family and eating a ton of home cooked big Italian meals full of cheese and pasta. Then I went to Carmel to spend New Years with more family where we went wine tasting and proceeded to eat many more delicious meals and desserts. When I got home I realized that there was a nice little extra layer around my mid section that seriously needed to go! I decided to make a plan to get my health back; and here is my goal for the month of January!

Three day Juice Cleanse
5 days a week at The Bar method
Vegan for the entire month of January

Progress so far:
Did two days of the juice cleanse- had to move to solid veggies the third day
Did 4 days this week, going for 5 days next week.
Ate vegan everyday this week. Not nearly as hard as I thought, considering cheese is one of my all time favorite foods.

If any of you are looking for new fresh ways to get your body back into shape here are some of my favorite ways to stay healthy:

Exercise:The Bar Method is the best work out I have ever done. It gives you all over tone without making you bulky and best of all you see almost immediate results. They have incredible instructors, great music, and beautiful studios! I go to the Newport Beach studio but you can visit their main website for more locations.

Dining: One of my favorite vegan places to eat is Native Foods.
They have several locations in Southern California and there food is amazing. I highly recommend the Azteca Salad, Sweet potato fries, and the Scorpion burger. I have taken many meat eaters here and if you don't tell them they aren't eating real meat they generally can't even tell the difference:)

A few weeks when I did the Thread Show in LA I met the designer of Nolan Jewelry. She was the sweetest young women. Her designs are simple but elegant with a playful flare. Everything is handmade in her down town Los Angeles studio. I was particularly taken by her heart rings. I bought the black and gold one and have not taken off since. I am now carrying some of her her wonderful pieces in my store. Today I received some of the heart rings in blue, red, black, and white. Thread Show LA Recap...

Last Sunday Danni and I went down to the Cooper Design Space for the Thread Show. I have been to the Cooper building many times to do a lot of my buying for the store, but never have I had the pleasure of being on the 11th floor! It's a huge open space surrounded by windows. You can see all the tall beautiful buildings outside in down town LA. We happened to be next to Tatum the designer of Love Tatum for the second time which was really fun. Her designs are incredible and she works with a lot of unique stones.

We met a ton of amazing people and sold a lot of wrap bracelets! The new Freedom collection made with leather, chain, and fringe was also a big hit. This next weekend I will be packing up the line again and heading up to San Francisco for the Thread Show at The Metreon on Sunday Nov. 20th. In November's issue of Italian Vogue Kristen Stuart did the most amazing shoot. While others may disagree I think there is a lot to love about this young actress. She is is anti-fame, slightly weird in public interviews, rebellious, and did I mention beautiful! I loved her role as Joan Jett in "The Runway's" as well as her rebellious role as Mallory in "Welcome to the Riley's where she plays a young misguided teenager. And then there was her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight Series. While I should be way past the age of liking these vampire movies I have to say I am more than looking forward to "Breaking Dawn" part 1 on November 18th!

Recently Briana Rene has been getting some great press in Orange Coast Magazine. A few months ago I met Michelle the fashion stylist for Orange Coast magazine. Last month both or clothing and vintage inspired lingerie were featured in the October issue.

This month she was doing a piece on leather and remembered that I use a lot of leather in my jewelry designs. My fall 2011 Freedom collection is made up of super soft leather, fringe, and mixture of antique brass and silver chains. The Katharine necklace was featured on the cover page of the OC Style section as well as our leather braided wrap bracelets. You can view the articles below.

It's no secret to those close to me that I am completely obsessed with Florence and the Machine. I have literally been counting down the months until the release of her new album Ceremonials. It was released yesterday and has been on permanent repeat ever since. This might be her best album yet if there is even such a thing because her previous two albums were incredible. It's safe to say that I have not ever loved a girl artist more than I love Florence. Her voice is like an angel and her long flowy dresses are to die for. Oh did I mention she was my entire inspiration for dying my hair red last year. If you haven't already download her new album do it now! I promise you will not be let down. The Lucky Lonely

Last Thursday night I went out to watch the The Lucky Lonely and The Step Kids play at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. If you are not familiar with this hidden gem of a bar you should be! Detroit bar is tucked away in small shopping center in between 19th and Placentia Ave.

The Lucky Lonely is an incredible band out of Orange County. It is made up up of three very talented artists. Mike Bedard(Drums), Warren Ellison(Guitarist), David Bennet(Vocal/Keyboard). The three of them have been friends for a long time and decided to join forces in the summer of 2010. If you haven't seen them play live you are definitely missing out. You can expect to be swooned by incredible lyrics as well as a voice like you have never heard before. The energy that this band has both on and off stage is something that not many bands have. If you haven't seen them yet you can catch them next month at The Galaxy Theatre on Nov. 11th where they will be playing a benefit for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Tickets are $20 and all the proceeds go to furthering research to find a cure. You can purchase tickets here.

Mad Men: Channeling your inner Joan Holloway

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Mad Men. In a world full of trashy reality TV shows its hard to find good quality televison. I happen to find this show incredibly engaging for a few different reasons. First because I have always loved fashion from the of 1950's. I love high waisted skirts, simple pumps, and big curly hair. Second, I find the traditional roles of the men and women back then really interesting. I am a very independent married women, paving my way as an entrepreneur so to see women playing the role of house wife and homemaker is so different than the life I live. I could not imagine living that life, but I do find it really intriguing to watch. BHGH and FLOC Fashion Show at The OC Mart Mix

Last Thursday I was in charge of producing another Fashion Show at The OC Mart Mix in Costa Mesa. This event was a charity event to raise money for Boy's Hope Girls Hope. BHGH is an incredible organization that provides children with safe homes, a first class education, opportunities to learn about themselves and the world, as well as academic, financial, and spiritual support through college.

Along with the BHGH we met with FLOC. Future Leaders of Orange County. A lovely group of both men and women that volunteer their time to many charities through OC. FLOC was established in 2009 in response to the need for a community-based organization that bridged the gap between young professionals and nonprofits; the impetus was spawned by the lack of accessible volunteer opportunities, relevant awareness events that invited direct action and inspired leadership.

We as store owners at the Mix had the pleasure of working with the BHGH kids age 11-16 as well as the FLOC models for our fashion show. I worked with each of the store owners to pull outfits for each of their models. After one night of fittings and a quick run through the event took place on Thursday without a hitch. The Paul Mitchell ladies provided their incredible talent for all the FLOC models make-up. They help out with all of our fashion shows and we are so grateful for their continued support!

I have always been a huge fan of the Men's line Scotch and Soda, so it was no wonder when I found out they were coming out with a women's line I was literally freaking out with anticipation and excitement. Scotch and Soda is a line out of Amsterdam that has been making Men's clothing for almost 25 years, and in the last year they started making women's clothing. It's safe to say that I am IN LOVE with every single item they make. No joke! I have always loved wearing clothing that looks like something you stole out of a man's closet, which is why I like their collection because it is very men's inspired. It's safe to say that I have a huge obsession with scarves. I buy them not just in the winter but all year long. I have purchased one on almost every trip I have ever been on. It's a way for me to remember each place I have visited and every time I wear it reminds me of when I was there. For this blog post I decided to count the scarves I own. Drum roll please..I have 47 of them. I know that sounds like a rather obscene amount of scarves and it probably is but I have to just point out that most of them cost under 40 dollars! Some women collect shoes, some collect clothing. My thing is scarves. I recently discovered the most amazing scarf line out of Barcelona. The scarves our 100% handmade of recycled cotton. DIY Jewelry Frame Display

Tired of your dresser being piled high with necklaces, rings, bangles? Being a jewelry designer and avid collector of vintage pieces I have a large quantity of jewelry. My dresser at one point was nicely organized, but for the past year it has been all tangled into one GIANT pile of gold! I have been telling myself for a long time that I would organize them nicely, but it never happened. So this weekend I made it my goal to make my very own jewelry frame. Last year when my grandfather passed away I took the below painting and frame from his house. I knew I didn't love the painting but I was totally in love with the frame and wanted to find a spot for in my house. The frame is absolutely gorgeous and has the original sticker on it from 1901! I am thrilled with the outcome of this DIY project.
To make your very own jewelry frame display you will need only 4 things: A frame of your choice, black foam core board, push pins, and a hot glue gun.

I receive three magazines each month: Bazaar, Elle, and Interview. It is safe to say that I have not had the time to read a single one of them in at least 4 or 5 months. I now have a really large stack of three different incredible magazines sitting on my coffee table. I love each publication for different reasons. Interview magazine is one of my favorites though because I absolutely love their photography and the people they choose to interview. The other day I picked up this months issue of Interview where they did the most brilliant photo shoot with Lara Stone. They used the most vibrant colored inflatable animals paired with really sexy bathing suits. There really wasn't much not to love!

Dad making the most unique shelves!

I've spent quite a lot of time looking at different materials to make the shelves out of for the store. I didn't just want boring shelving; I wanted something with some character. My dad and I took a few trips out to Irvine to the Industrial Metal Supply store and I was overwhelmed with the choices. It's an entire warehouse full of the most amazing products. Here are some pictures of the almost finished product.

So this past Saturday I spent the day in Riverside with my dad. I went down to work on a few different projects we needed to finish up. My main goal was to paint the rad Alice in Wonderland looking table he made for me out of an old mirrored cabinet door. It came out AMAZING! We also worked on some of the shelving. Dad welding with crazy bill

So lately some of the ideas I have come to my dad with have all required lots of metal work including welding. While my dad recently bought a new machine that cuts metal, he does not have the tools necessary for welding. So for these projects he has been going down to Wild Bill's in Riverside so finish some of the metal work. Here are some great pictures taken from my Dad's first time welding! I love you Dad, you seriously rock. And did I mention that your welding mask with the neon flames is kinda of amazing!!

A couple of weeks ago I was at the Mix working on all the details for our fashion show and decided to check out my space and see how the construction was going. My dad and his girlfriend April met me there and we went over the layout and took a lot of measurements to make sure we have space for all the beautiful pieces of furniture we are creating! Day 1 of Construction

Today I went to my first construction meeting at The Mix Mart to check out the store. It was so exciting to see the layout of the store, even if all that was up was the wooden frames. The store looked a lot bigger than I imagined which great. I got to speak with Billy the head of construction and let him know where I would like the dressing room and any other items to be built out. The best part about being a part of a brand new development is that you have the options of having it built exactly how you want it:) Hope you enjoy my little sneak peak of day one!

So the official 5 week countdown has begun until the store opening. I have not been doing much blogging lately or updating of the website with all the new jewels, but what I have been doing is prepping for the store!! For the past several months I have been collecting furniture at various flea markets in and around the OC and LA area and storing them in my already crowded garage. I have purchased some AWESOME pieces though. Naturally all of them have needed some tweaking which is where my lovely and talented father comes in. I have been showing up week after week with one new project after another. Luckily my father loves wood working and because of my interest in various metals is now learning how to both cut and weld metal. Its been such an incredible last few weeks watching my concepts come to life with my fathers incredible craftsmanship. I will forever remember these beginning moments of the creation of my store and how my dad and I literally built everything from scratch:) Love you Dad! Here is a little sneak peak of the beginning stages of the furniture for the store...

It's no secret that I have a serious crush on Scarlett Johansson. She is in my opinion the modern day Marilyn Monroe. My love affair with her goes much deeper than just her beautiful figure and porcelain skin though. I find myself loving almost every film that she has ever been in. She tends to always pick really unique roles. Obviously my all time favorite movie with her in it is Lost in Translation with Billy Murray. I love the quirky yet quiet soul she plays. Then there was Vicky Christina Barcelona which was phenomenal. Two friends move to Barcelona for the summer and find themselves in love with the same gorgeous painter Javier Bardem. The love affair between her, his ex-wife Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem is something not to be missed. Also in 2008 there was The Other Boleyn Girl which featured her and Natalie Portman, another one of my favorite actresses. So today's blog is dedicated to a young women who I find to be incredible. Today was truly awesome. I was out the door at 7am so I could get to the flea market nice and early. I was on a search for all things vintage..I found some amazing wooden chests to display my jewelry in for the two upcoming shows I'm doing in December. Along with those I found tons of exquisite vintage pieces that needed some love but after working on them all day they came out beautiful.

There is nothing quite as exciting as going to an estate sale or a flea market. There is so much to look at and lets be honest some of it is really bad. But beneath all the not so great items you find some truly amazing treasures hidden beneath the surface. Those are my absolute favorite finds. Often the second I see something I already can picture in my head what I want to do with it. Today I literally couldn't get home fast enough because I was so excited to work with all my new gems. With so many new pieces I am certainly not going to be sleeping from now until Christmas! Here is a preview of just a few of the items I made today. It's no secret that I have had a serious crush on Scarlett Johansson for years now. The love affair began in 2003 when I first saw Lost In Translation with her and Bill Murry. It is literally one of my all time favorite movies! Over the years I have managed to watch her grow from the girl next door to a beautiful young women. The holidays are only a few months away and I know they are going to creep up fast. That said I decided to start building my inventory of one of kind pieces for my two upcoming trunk shows. One of my favorite parts of jewelry making is working with vintage bits and pieces. There is nothing more exciting than taking something old that you no longer wear and giving it a new life. I forget where I originally came across these pictures, but I have had them stored a way for quite some time. I know that they were originally printed in Vogue Paris edition in 2005. When I first saw this photo shoot I was really taken back. The expression on the models face was so raw and sultry. The photography and the colors also really stuck out to me. I love that some were taken in black and white and over all they really focused on the neutral skin tones. There is something so feminine and beautiful about these shots. There were a lot more photos taken for this shoot but these were the ones that I found the most unique.

I have always been a fan of Derek Lam's creations, and his minimalistic art inspired Spring 2011 collection is no exception. Some of my favorite looks consisted of trenches in all types of fabrications from simple to looser silhouettes. The color palette consisted of lots of neutral colors including creamy whites and beiges. He did however through a hint of color in a few pieces. One of those being this brilliant yellow 70's inspired shift dress. Another one of my favorite things about Derek Lam's collections is how he accessories them. There were some killer shoes in the show. I was particularly fond of the tall lacewrap around gladiator sandals. I can't wait to see these pieces come to life when they hit stores!

Loving Spain..

Clearly I have traveling on the brain. Well it's always on the brain but sometimes I am too caught up in my daily work to really think about it. Last night I was flipping through the pages of the August Harper's Bazaar and I was pleasantly surprised to see this photo shoot with one of my favorite models Jessica Stam in one of my favorite cities in Spain, Seville.

I studied abroad in Granada, Spain back in 2003 and it was an incredible experience. There is nothing quite like moving to a foreign country, not knowing a single person, and barely speaking the language. While it can be a little uneasy at times I found the whole experience to be exhilarating! It was a blank canvas just waiting to be painted on.

I met some of the most amazing people on that trip. I am still close with five of the girls I met while I was there and although we live all over the US they all made it out for my wedding two years ago. It was the much anticipated reunion we had always dreamed of.

For those of you who are thinking about studying abroad I highly recommend it. It is a chance of a life time to grow as a person. You will learn so much about yourself and you will have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. It truly was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I wish I could do it over and over again! I guess that's why I continue to travel as much as I can...

Greece I love you...

Greece has always held a very special place in my heart. I've traveled all over the world and up to this point I have yet to find a more beautifully reserved place. I have only visited two Greek Islands: Paros and Santorini, but both were exquisite. Paros was for the locals; you see very little tourtists there. It's a pretty small island and the beaches are like nothing I have ever seen. The water is the most beautiful aqua color, and the frappes they serve on the beach are divine.

Santorini..is..well breathtaking to say the least. The sunsets are magical. Literally the entire island stops to watch the sunset on the edge of the steep cliffs, and when the sun has set everyone claps. I cried almost every sunset, because it was such a moving experience. As you might already guess I am in love with Greece, which is is why when I saw this photo shoot taken in Symi, Greece I knew it had to be my next post. Hope you enjoy this little slice of paradise!

Julianne Moore has always been a favorite of mine. In the latest Bulgari Fall 2010 campaign she poses naked with two lion cubs. This will be the second year in a row that she has been the face of Bulgari. In my opinion she truly is the the epitome of natural beauty.

Next up was this genius photo shoot with Megan Fox and a naked mannequin made to look like her twin. While I haven't followed her career in depth I couldn't help but notice her high fashion look on the cover of Interview magazine. The photo shoot took place at Chateau Marmont in LA and was photographed by Craig McDean. I couldn't help but grin as I turned the pages to see her multi page photo shoot. My favorite part about the entire article is where she asked the interviewer if she could keep the head of the mannequin as a souvenir. Naturally there is some concern of what the lurking paparrazi's might think of her carrying her own head out of a hotel, but she doesn't seem bothered one bit. She tosses it in a shopping bag and goes on her marry way. Now that rocks!

I am not exactly sure when my love affair with Kristen Stewart began but it might have been when she played the role of a young diabetic in movie The Panic Room with Jodie Foster. Since then I have come to admire her even more as it seems like I can barely open a magazine without her in it. She is a beautiful young girl, who doesn't seem to care about being a celebrity. While she may be on every one's radar she still seems very down to earth and like many teens her age just wants to enjoy her life and her friends. According to a recent article I read about her she is not particular fond of all the buzz that surrounds her these days. My heart goes out to all of these young actresses and actors who can't live a normal life like many young people their age because they are surrounded by paparazzi day in and day out.

Today I wore this beautiful sterling silver ivory ring that my mom got in her twenties. I was digging through her jewelry box one night about five years ago and found it, and politely informed her that I was going to borrow it! I've had it ever since and I absolutely love it. It definitely has a real Indian vibe to it. Tonight as I was looking at different fabrics and feathers in the studio I decided I was in the mood to make something that was Indian inspired but with a modern twist. Being that summer is nearly around the corner I wanted to make pieces with lots of color. My new glass cat's eye beads were the perfect match. I think this could be my next mini collection. Tribute to Alex Wen

Every once in awhile you find people who are truly inspiring. Alex Wek has always been one of my favorite models but its her philanthropic efforts that I find so incredible.

Born and raised in Sudan. She and a few family members fled the country to get away from the war and ended up in Britain. In 1995 Alex was discovered at an outdoor market in London near Crystal Palace. She later moved to the United States.

Today she is holds many roles. Beyond being an outstanding runway model, she is also a member of the U.S Committee of Refugees Advisory Council. She is helping to raise awareness about the situation in Sudan as well as plight of refugees worldwide. To add to the list she is also a missionary to World Vision and an ambassador for Doctors without Borders. And if that doesn't totally knock your socks off she now designing a line of handbags called Alex 1933 for select Selfridges stores.

Today I would like to pay tribute so someone who is truly making a difference in the world. This photo shoot is absolutely brilliant. I love the tribal prints and crazy hair!

I am so excited to announce that the Je Taime collection is finally available to purchase. It has taken much longer than anticipated to finish, as well as get it up on the website, but in my opinion well worth the wait. The pieces are bold, and chunkier than previous collections and have a lot of unique elements. I had a lot of fun playing around with different stones, leather and heavy chains. This collection was by far the most fun to create of any of my previous collections. While I am obsessed with all of the pieces in this collection my two personal favorites are the Penelope and the Guinevere. The bronze beads and the vintage beaded applique are so feminine and flirty. The Guinevere is a little more rock and roll with the thick chunky pieces of pyrite. What's great about all these pieces is that they can be paired with jeans and t-shirt or dressed up for a night out. Obviously I will be sporting them in my standard attire: distressed skinny jeans, blank v-neck, and heels!

So I think its safe to say that Mila Kunis has come along way since her days on "That 70's show". I have always been a huge fan of her and I think she is absolutely gorgeous. I loved her role in the movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". In my mind I imagine her real life personality to be as cool, calm and collected as her role in that movie. In honor of the opening of Alice and Wonderland this past weekend I thought it was only appropriately that I posted these photos. I have always been a huge fan of Tim Walkers photography, but my god this is just brilliant. It's part Pirates of the Caribbean with the ship hats and part Alice in wonderland with the rabbit head. I want to fall asleep and wake up this dreamy Persian world he created. Well maybe not permanently but for a little bit!

Two Collections Under One Roof

As young emerging designers and a happily married couple, Laguna Beach locals Warren and Briana Ellison have created two very distinct, though cohesively balanced, collections. Briana, who spent her college years working at clothing stores and merchandising, constructs handmade men and women’s jewelry. Warren, a South African native who has worked in graphic and print design, designs a line of men’s and women’s T-shirts and tank tops. After they launched their lines together in a fashion show at Mozambique Restaurant in Laguna Beach last November, it became clear there would be no stopping this duo from marking their territory on the fashion scene.

Briana’s jewelry line, named Briana Rene, consists of one-of-a-kind pieces of gunmetal, antique brass, sterling silver and 14-karat gold, tailored to her own style. “I don’t make anything that I wouldn’t absolutely love to wear,” she says. From feathers to jewels, chains to leather, her collection includes a mix of elements. “My heart and soul really go into every piece. A lot of the pieces come from my travels, so it’s really hard to part with those, but it’s nice to know someone else is going to be wearing a piece of my story.”

If Briana’s collection is a tad whimsical, Warren’s clothing line, Pretense, exudes similar touches, combined with edgy, contemporary Southern California style. “I want the line to feel like when you look at it, that it sparks your imagination or evokes some kind of emotion,” Warren says. His first collection, Wonderland, utilizes a dreamy color scheme that balances subtlety with bold graphics. The entire men’s line is 100-percent organic and non-toxic. He says, “From a fabrication side, the organic fabrics tend to be a lot more comfortable and softer to wear. They’re better for the environment, and the people who deal in organics tend to be more forward-thinking, often embracing creativity and fresh ideas.”

The Ellisons’ contribution to society does not end there. Briana plans to design specific lines with the goal of donating a portion of sales to a different designated chairty each year. For instance, the Egg of Hope collection was inspired by a trip to South Africa and supports the Children’s Hunger Relief Fund.

This twosome understands how to play together and work together. Of last year’s Mozambique fashion show, Briana says, “It was good, but stressful. I think it’s easy to work together ... It’s cool to have someone to share it with.”

The couple says it’s pure coincidence their collections pair well. Their individual styles, though original, are artistically enhanced by their travels and observation of each other’s creative instincts. These two represent the rewards of working hard and cultivating inspiration. “We’ve just been making products for so long, and now we get to show it off,” says Warren.

Changing Lives with the “Egg of Hope”

Briana Rene Designs was founded by Briana Ellison in 2009. Her designs are different because they are not about following current trends but instead reflecting on what is important to her at the moment and what is going on in her life. While she knows that her pieces may not be for everyone, it is more important to get a strong reaction, rather than a mediocre one. She had the opportunity to visit Africa one summer with her husband and was so stricken with seeing children living in extreme poverty that upon her return, she truly wanted to do something to help. It was because of that trip that she decided to launch her own jewelry line and create an entire collection where a portion of sales would be donated to charity. “The spirit of the people who live in the rural areas is truly amazing. They have so little yet they have the capability to appreciate life and see it through such hopeful eyes,” she reminisces. Briana created the Egg of Hope collection to provide donations to the Children’s Hunger Relief Fund. 10% of each Egg of Hope sale will be donated to this fund. She sees the need that exists in the world and plans to pick a new organization each year to donate a portion of her sales to. Featured here is the Blossom Egg, displaying beautiful hand painted flowers in an array of colors outlined with gold against a black background. This artistic necklace makes a statement with its unique design and bright colors.

Briana says, “I have always had a love for vintage jewelry and design.” Even as a little girl, she always loved dressing up in her grandmothers jewelry, which later placed her in the fashion industry to gain experience in sales, management, and merchandising for many years. Above it all, she loved designing the most. Her creativity has also always shone through other areas of her life with her drive to try new things that none of her friends were doing. Rather than follow the maddening crowd, she picked up horseback riding and competing in equestrian jumping shows while her friends were playing soccer. Briana finds that constantly trying new things is how she expresses her creative side. Briana graduated from Long Beach State University with a degree in sociology. She never studied art or design in college because she wanted to teach elementary school at the time. Once she graduated, she sought a break from school and moved straight to Los Angeles, where she started working in the fashion industry.

Briana explains, “My jewelry is a product of who I am…my style is a fusion of elegance and passion. I always try and make each piece unique and ask myself if I would still wear it in forty years. If the answer is yes, I know I have a great piece!” She is constantly trying to come up with new ideas that she has never seen done before and loves working with 14k gold or chunky antique brass or thick chains. In her most recent collection, Silent Chaos, Briana has enjoyed using masculine chains to change things up a little. The Mischa Necklace is a one of a kind piece made with mixed chains of sterling silver, aluminum, antique silver and gun metal, finished with a 1950's vintage brooch. The bold and edgy look of the large links intertwined with sterling silver chains hanging throughout is fun and flirty.

Her favorites include the Byrdie Necklace from the Egg of Hope collection because it has a real vintage feel and is a timeless piece. The Egg of Hope collection can be worn by anyone and it will never become dated. Each egg is so unique and 10% goes to a good cause. Briana has always possessed a love for travel. She moved to Granada, Spain to study Spanish and travel Europe when she was twenty, and ended up living there for a year as it was the most incredible experience of her life. During that time she learned a great deal about herself and had the chance to immerse with other cultures. “Traveling the world has opened my eyes to so many beautiful places and people; I get a lot of my inspiration from my travels,” shares Briana. Many of her ideas come from her travels as she travels overseas yearly and returns home with new ideas for her collections. She is inspired from her encounters with people and seeing new places. In all honesty, most of her designs are the product of whatever is going on in her life at the moment. Briana can create one piece and have a whole collection follow.

Briana seems to have traveled the world as her favorites include Greece, Italy, and Africa as being the most influential in her collections. The Atlantis Collection was inspired by Santorini, one of the most beautiful places she has visited. From the deep color of the sea to the breathtaking sunsets, the entire city stops to hold its breath at its own beauty. The Poseidon Necklace is another one of her favorites because it goes with everything. She loves that it is a choker with a bunch of little dangly chains on it that looks like fringe. Also, Briana loves Italy as she is Italian and never travels abroad without visiting her favorite city, Florence. “Florence is a truly magical city and I manage to cry every time I have to leave there,” she says. Her last trip equipped her with gorgeous leather, which she decided to create a line mixing different materials. Her Eden Collection contains this mixture of leather and chains. Her favorite from Eden is the Eve Necklace (in maroon leather), which she wears all the time. She loves going out at night with jeans, a t-shirt, and her Eve necklace. Made of gold, silver, and brass in it, it carries an elegant vibe with punk rock undertones.

Her collection changes annually as she introduces three to four new collections. She will continue to sell the Egg of Hope collection, while updating it with six new styles twice a year. Briana never takes a break as she shares “When I am working on one collection I am always thinking about what I am going to design next.” In the coming years, she sees her company with a wider distribution as she wants more people to experience her brand and hopefully fall in love with her designs. She hopes to expand into the European market and for her line to find a place internationally. Her ultimate goal is to simply work on design and move forward with her plans to start a line of clutches and messenger bags. She looks forward to possibly establishing a small team to assist her as she is currently wearing so many hats in her business. Briana cannot help herself as she is a total perfectionist who often takes on too much but gladly while knowing things will turn out perfect. She designs and hand-makes each piece to ensure perfection.

We also selected the Santorini Necklace, made of a layered antique brass chain necklace and glass beads. This necklace is pleasantly lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear as the double layered chain links draw attention to the neckline. In the rare moments she does have free time, Briana enjoys going to the beach for a run along the sand, walking to her local Farmers market, and grabbing drinks with friends. Briana wants to share with readers that, “I hope people continue to love my designs. I design from the heart and I put a lot of time and effort into each piece. I love being in line at the grocery store and seeing someone wearing one of my pieces. It gives me such a sense of pride and accomplishment.” All pieces are personally designed in her Laguna Beach studio. She encourages customers to send her photos of them wearing their favorite Briana Rene pieces as she is working on creating a fan page on her website to showcase all the beautiful faces who support her.

Evolution

This spread in Interview Magazine really caught my eye. It is a unique play on modern day evolution. What I liked most about it was that I could completely identify with it. The progression of these photos is basically how I feel about my life.

At one point I was a little girl and life was nothing more than recess and snack time. It was mellow and easy. Now my life (sigh) resembles this last photo in the series. There is me totally buried in my work, emails, and bills. I have become one of those people who has severe separation anxiety if I am away from my iPhone for more than 10 minutes. Sometimes it feels like there is no end in site for me slowing down, but I am hopeful that all of this intense work will one day pay off and I will be able to stop and breathe a little:)

It seems like all the trends for 2010 are full of color, texture, yummy fabrics, and lots of layers. Being that I am a devotee of layers, I couldn't be happier. I am noticing that all of my favorite trends from fashion week are reminiscent of the 60's and 70's. Guess it might be time to break into my moms treasure chest of clothes from way back.

I have finally decided to create an official blog for Briana Rene. I thought it would be a nice way for me to update everyone on upcoming events, trunk shows, and all the little things that rock my world on a daily basis.

I am so excited about what 2010 will bring to Briana Rene. We have so many things going on right now that are very exciting. We have recently paired up with Haute House Pr to participate in a huge PR event in New York at the end of March. So I am super busy getting all of my collections together for that, along with editing a new look book.

Sunday I drove down to San Diego to do a photo shoot with my beautiful model and sister Dannie. She has been my model for the past year and she always makes it a painless process. Her natural ability to make anything fun, makes shooting her one of my favorite parts of my business. I think we do more laughing than anything else during these photos shoots.

I wanted the shoot to have a grungy motel 6 vibe, so we took most of the pictures outside of a an old apartment complex. I brought my favorite purple velvet chair from my living room down for the shoot. I had my heart set on taking photos of her sitting on the chair in front of a brick wall.
